A Grandparent Day at The Lost Sea Adventure

I love how much there is to explore right here in East Tennessee! As a working mom, I don’t always get to join every summer adventure, but I’m so thankful my boys have grandparents who love to take them somewhere new and make memories with them. Their day at The Lost Sea was a special one.

Some of the sweetest memories our children will carry with them are the ones they make with the people who love them.

As a working mom, summer can look a little different in our house. While I’m working, my kids are making their own memories—and I’m thankful that so many of those memories are made with their grandparents.

This particular adventure was extra special because my parents, great-grandma, and uncle all tagged along for the day. What started as a trip to explore The Lost Sea Adventure turned into one of those multi-generational days I’m especially thankful my boys get to experience.

My parents have always been willing to jump in and make the most of time with my boys. They take them places, find little adventures, make stops for treats, and give them experiences I might not always have the time to give them during the workweek.

And honestly, that means more to me than I can probably put into words.

A Day at Lost Sea Adventure 🦇

Located in Sweetwater, Tennessee, The Lost Sea Adventure is home to America’s largest underground lake, making it a pretty memorable place to take three curious boys.

They headed underground to explore the caverns, learn about the history of the cave, and see the lake hidden beneath the surface. It’s the kind of place that feels like an adventure from the moment you walk in.

I wasn’t able to be there for this particular adventure, but hearing about their day afterwards and seeing the pictures made me smile. There’s something really special about knowing your kids are out experiencing new things, even when you can’t be the one taking them.

And knowing they were experiencing it alongside their grandparents, great-grandma, and uncle made it even sweeter.

Dinner & Ice Cream in Sweetwater 🍦

After their adventure at The Lost Sea, they headed into Sweetwater for dinner at The Lazy Beagle.

Then, because no outing with grandparents is complete without something sweet, they stopped at Sweetwater Creamery for ice cream.

And while these might seem like simple little stops, I think they’re the kinds of details that become part of the memories. The restaurant they remember going to with Grandma and Grandpa. The ice cream shop they ask to visit again. The stories they tell about the cave.

Sometimes the little things are what make an ordinary day feel special.

At the end of the day, these adventures mean so much because of the time they get to spend together with their grandparents. So many of their favorite memories are made at their house and on their property, too, and I’m thankful for all of it.

So Grateful for Grandparents 🤎

As a mom, there is a very special kind of gratitude that comes with knowing your children are loved and cared for when you can’t be the one with them.

My boys have grandparents who don’t just spend time with them—they make memories with them. And I love that they also get days like this with their great-grandma and uncle, too.

There is something really sweet about multiple generations sharing an ordinary day together. The kids may not remember every detail of the cave or exactly what they ate for dinner, but I hope they remember being surrounded by people who loved them enough to show up and make the day an adventure.

So, Mom and Dad, thank you for saying yes to the adventures.

Thank you for taking the boys places, keeping things fun, making memories, and giving them experiences they’ll carry with them long after the day is over.

And thank you for giving me the gift of knowing that while I’m working, my kids are having a pretty great time, too.

I’m so thankful they get to grow up with grandparents, a great-grandma, and an uncle who are willing to make the most of these years with them.

Here’s to more little adventures, more multi-generational days, and more memories made along the way. 🤍
